It was clear from the moment I was born that music was my destiny.  Throughout my childhood I never wavered in my desire to make the piano my life's work.  My Doctoral degree in Piano Performance, Literature and Pedagogy is from James Madison University in Virginia.  My desire has always been to combine teaching in a university setting with a robust private studio.  I also hold a Master of Music degree from the University of Louisville, Ky. and a Baccalaureate from Old Dominion University in Virginia.  My horizons broadened extensively with a one year International Fellowship from Rotary International.  This wonderful opportunity allowed me to study both at the Goethe Institute in Munich, Germany, as well as a full year of study at the Hochschule fur Musik und darsteelende Kunst in Hamburg, Germany.  During that time I attended every piano recital, orchestra concert and opera imaginable.  The experience was awe-inspiring and one that I draw on professionally often.

The pinnacle of my educational background has been the opportunity to study with pianist SOPHIA ROSOFF.  One of the last living students of renowned pedagogue ABBY WHITESIDE, Rosoff has been a driving force in my physical approach to the piano.  My doctoral final project was based on my four years of study with this remarkable woman.  You can view my document using the link below:      

Dr, Carol Ann Barry has been teaching students for more than 30 years.  The goal of my studio is to development a love or music and a strong foundation of musicianship that will last a lifetime.  Each student's curriculum is designed specifically for them--with their interests, learning style and maturity in mind.  The plethora of musical choices is endless!  Students enjoy helping select their repertoire for recitals and festivals.  "Learning Smart" encourages students to develop good habits in all areas of academic life--planning deadlines and reaching goals musically encourages the same goal setting behaviors in all areas of their student lives.
